Roads, highways, & trenches are all linear projects, commonly called corridors, and are designed using horizontal and vertical alignments with typical cross-sections. It is common practice to use the published cross sections to calculate earth quantities for your bid. However, this method of earthwork volume calculation requires a significant amount of effort and in reality does not provide the best data for your project estimate.
